We are pleased to announce that local artist, (and master-craftsman!), Rob Chance has joined our effort. Rob brings a lot to the table with his talents and skills. Rob has had considerable experience in doing this type of work, and as you can see from the picture above, he certainly excels in this type of work.
The entire floor of the site would consists of these bricks, but a different color brick would outline the actual walkway in the floor of the memorial. One walkway would travel from the wall to the back of the memorial, and the other would travel across the memorial, with both intersecting in the middle of the floor. Around the other 3 sides of the memorial would be 3 walls, being much shorter in height, with opening to walk into the memorial. Various plaques and lighting for night use would be installed on these shorter walls. Numerous benches would be installed around the perimeter of the memorial. Corporate sponsors would be enlisted to support the cost of these marble benches.
Getting back to the main wall, the sides and the back of the wall would be made out of the brick from the former site of St. Joseph's church. The front of the wall would have marble panels similar to our background on this page, and would be inscribed with the name of the memorial. Immediately behind the wall, in the exact middle, would be a taller flagpole with the American Flag on it. There would be a total of 8 shorter flagpoles, 4 on either side of the American Flag. These poles would have The Missouri State Flag, The Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, and a POW-MIA flag. These poles would also be made possible through corporate donations, and would be lit at night for dramatic effect.
